A New Heart

These last two weeks have been the hardest, most stressful and nerve-wracking two weeks of my entire life! I have not left Ebonie other than to go to RMH to shower and change clothes.

We were told you should be heading down for your new heart around 12:30 in the afternoon so grandma and Coach L came to the hospital. It was the most excited, anxious, scared and hopeful afternoon. Later we found out the surgery was pushed back to 3:30 which just made more time to sit and think about everything. I know you were getting anxious but Dr. L was confident the heart was just right for you!

I was allowed to walk all the way to the OR and give you kisses and squeeze your hand as they rolled you in with Nurse S who promised to call throughout the procedure.

Coach L, grandma and I had to take everything out of your room; posters, pictures, cards, blankets, all of the snacks and drinks. They have to sanitize and scrub the room for transplant patients. Coach B met Coach L and I so they could wait with me and be there to support every phone call throughout the night.

4:07pm - They were ready to get started on your surgery and your heart was enroute to the hospital.

6:08pm - Your heart was in the room and they were getting ready for the next steps in surgery.

7:53pm - Mid transplant update, you were doing good, and they would call when finished.

11:17pm - Your heart was in and they were closing you up soon.

2:52am - Dr. L called to let me know he was finished with the surgery, and they were getting you ready to go back to your room.

I think I half slept most of the night while hugging my phone and waiting on every call and update! I was so nervous it was hard to eat and focus on anything.

3 months post transplant (almost)

Can anyone else believe it has been three months since Ebonie had her heart transplant! It's truly still something I have a hard time ...
